News Works NZ promotes newspapers and their digital platforms. These options give readers choice to read our titles the way they want to and advertisers multi-platform options.

We represent all the interests of the newspaper industry and provide free, current and unbiased advice and information. The team at News Works NZ offer a broad scope of industry services including sales support, industry information, marketing, and promotions. In addition we offer unbiased advice and useful tools to help plan and execute print campaigns.

News Works NZ is a commercial entity of the Newspaper Publishers' Association (NPA). Other entities owned by NPA are:

Julie

Julie Rutledge, Regional Business Development & Newspaper Communication Manager

Julie Rutledge has acquired a vast array of skills and is News Works NZ’s Regional Business Development & Newspaper Communication Manager.  She has spent seven years as part of our close-knit team starting as Regional Champion in which her daily interactions with regional newspapers helped develop her passion of the industry as a whole. This, with three and a half years at the New Zealand Herald and six years at Research International, means Julie brings a lot of valuable experience and expertise to the team. She expresses the fact that the role is both stimulating and challenging, and is looking forward to the future in this dynamic industry. Whilst away from the office her interests include tennis, cycling, walking, swimming, and just spending quality time with her family.

   
Lorne

Lorne Maltman, Manager - Accounts & Operations

Lorne has been with the company almost 7 years and enjoys the energetic atmosphere and variety of his role, plus the daily commute on his scooter. He is a true believer in newspapers, what they provide and how they work, while his degree in Mathematics explains his enjoyment in the numbers and logistics involved in their publication. Lorne has been involved in media since he arrived in NZ from Scotland in 2003, working for The Press in Christchurch, but newspapers have always been in his blood. His father owned a newspaper distribution business and from a young age Lorne was in the passenger seat helping out! Outside work Lorne loves spending time with his family and listening to his music.

   
Kirsty

Kirsty Atkins, Marketing Executive

Kirsty is a long-standing member of the News Works NZ team with a history since 1995 starting as receptionist and working her way through to her current position picking up a wealth of experience along the way. She loves promoting the value of newspapers through industry campaigns and events, and is working to consolidate her hands on marketing knowledge by completing her marketing degree. This gives her valuable opportunities to test the theories and put in to practice the latest advice on marketing the ever changing media industry. Kirsty is a dedicated mum who loves shopping, Holdens and lemon meringue pie when she doesn’t have her nose in a textbook.

   
Georgina

Georgina Davies, Industry Marketing Co-ordinator & Account Manager

Georgina Davies, known to most as Georgie, has worked at News Works NZ since 2010 as an Account Manager. Having worked in Newspapers for several years and Media agency OMD Georgie has a good grasp on the Newspaper Advertising industry which she is passionate about. Born in Stoke-on-Trent in the UK, Georgie moved to New Zealand when she was 7. She is a mad sports fan, enjoys socialising, likes to travel and can’t start the day without having read a hard copy newspaper.

 

 
Nick

Nick Campbell, Research and Insight Manager

Nick began his impressive media career with Nielsen Online (previously ACNielsen eRatings.com) before moving across to The NZ Herald’s research team. Following his time at the Herald Nick embarked on his OE, where he gained significant publishing experience working for Telegraph Media Group, Guardian News and Media, and most recently as a consultant to News Works UK and the National newspapers, providing them with a greater understanding of their digital performance. Nick believes the strength of newspapers brands, the breadth of their content and the trust readers have for this content provide the perfect vehicle for advertisers looking to connect with consumers and build brands across platforms. When he’s not busy analysing newspapers and their digital entities, Nick is a passionate sports fan and also enjoys socialising and travel.

   
Viv

Vivienne Withell, Senior Account Manager

Viv joined News Works NZ in 2007 after 10 years at APN’s New Zealand Herald working in both sales and production roles, and has a deep hands-on understanding of the way newspapers are put together along with a passion for their power to reach their audiences. She is excited about the way newspapers are now working across multiple media platforms to reach the ever increasing appetite for news in the New Zealand population, and is proud of the way newspapers are evolving to meet their readers needs. Viv is an avid reader who spends time away from the office running her family between books and walks and trips to the beach.

Nicole Gillies, Senior Account Manager

Nicole began her career as a Graduate Trainee at News Works NZ (previously NAB) after completing her Bachelor of Communication degree at AUT.  Nicole enjoys travelling and has lived in Whakatane, Dunedin and California.  She believes that newspapers provide truthful and trusted information and keep people in touch with their local and international communities.  Nicole likes to keep busy and in her spare time enjoys cooking, sailing, travelling and indulging in the fashion and food sections of her favourite newspapers.  When she’s not negotiating deals you’ll find her cheering on the Warriors and spending time with her husband and baby Gus.

   
 Murie

Muirie Cook, Account Manager

Coming from Fairfax where she performed various roles, Muirie has been with News Works NZ since 2010. Muirie finds the media industry interesting and varied, and her account management role brings her strength of coming up with solutions outside the square to the fore. She enjoys the social aspect and the interaction with her agencies. Travelling in from her rural Auckland home she shares with her husband and spoilt cat, she finds the small intimate team environment friendly and suits her. In her spare time, interests include photography, boxing and reading.

   
Shareel

Shareel Nand, Account Co-ordinator

Shareel has been employed with News Works NZ since 2005. She came to us with a barista and makeup artistry background, and is married mum of one. Shareel is a keen baker and loves to dance. Shareel has been team Employee of the Year and her role as Account Coordinator involves managing the advertising for The Warehouse and The Warehouse Stationery.

   
Andrea

Andrea Green, Advertising Administrator

Andrea’s attention to detail and pride in her work have made her a valuable member of our team since 2002. The quiet one in the office, Andrea works across Sales and Finance utilising her Auckland University Marketing Degree and past experience in marketing and sales, she keeps us all informed of the market activity. An eclectic taste in music and love of Sport are her out of office interests – although she has given up the BMX Freestyling and the tennis now with family and her home filling her time.

   
Marli

Marli Evitt, Credit Controller

Marli moved to News Works NZ from the large offices of APN in Whangarei, in 2010, where she was also a credit controller with many others. She welcomes the different and varied challenges that arise from her ledger and queries that this entails, as well as the difference of being the only credit controller of the company. Enjoying the camaraderie of the smaller team where all occasions are celebrated, she also takes pleasure from her daily commute from Waiheke Island.

   
Vanessa

Vanessa Gurry, Administration Officer

The baby of the office ‘Administration Officer’ Vanessa Gurry has worked at the NPA for 6 years. Born and raised in the Capital - Wellington, she and her husband moved to the big smoke - Auckland in January 2012. In her spare time Vanessa likes to stay at home baking for her loved ones, working on her art and crafts and cooking for her hubby. And what woman doesn’t like shopping... Vanessa is no exception! Having previously worked in the car industry Vanessa enjoys working in the diverse newspaper industry which she finds interesting and challenging.
