61% trust "traditional" media, reports Edelman Trust Barometer

The barometer reports that trust in "traditional" media has rebounded to levels last seen in 2012 and that trust in journalists is also up 13% points. Meanwhile trust in social media has faltered.

Only 24% of the UK population trust social media, according to Edelman, with the public demanding much tougher regulation of social media platforms – 64% believe that they are not sufficiently regulated.

In addition, some 70% of Britons believe that social media companies do not do enough to prevent illegal or unethical behaviours on their platforms, while 70% also agree that these companies do not do enough to prevent the sharing of extremist content. Over a third of people believe that social media is not good for society and 53% worry about being exposed to fake news on social platforms.
