Established in 1875 the Northern Advocate is based in Whangarei and distributed throughout Northland. As the title suggests, the Advocate is a voice for Northlanders. Northland is one of New Zealand’s most rural areas, with Whangarei as its city centre, the region’s economy is based on agriculture, forestry, fishing and a growing tourism industry.
